It was the moment on everyone’s lips in the hours after the 2025 Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
And now Adrien Brody’s girlfriend Georgina Chapman has spoken out after Halle Berry, 58, kissed The Brutalist star on the red carpet at the glitzy Hollywood ceremony, moments before he won the Oscar for Best Actor.
The shock smooch was a nod to an equally iconic Oscars moment 22 years ago, when Adrien, now 51, pulled Halle in for a dramatic kiss after bagging his first Academy Award for The Pianist.
This time around, the kiss was planted in front of the actor’s girlfriend – Harvey Weinstein’s ex – Georgina who clapped as the pair then went in for a warm embrace.
Now the 48-year-old English fashion designer and actress, who has been dating Adrien since 2020, has broken her silence on the incident in an interview with Extra.
She said: ‘It was [quite the moment], wasn’t it? I mean, how can you deny a man a kiss with Halle Berry?

Georgina confirmed that Adrien was not in her bad books for the impromptu snog, adding: ‘He was more than fine.’
Halle appeared to pre-emptively apologise to Georgina just before she planted the kiss on the Oscar winner.
She then turned to his girlfriend and said: ‘I’m sorry, Georgina, but I’ve gotta do it.’
The Catwoman icon later clarified to Extra: ‘Oh yeah! Only because she was fine could I do it.
’21 years I’ve been waiting to get him on a red carpet and slap on one.’
The stars first caused a scandal at the 2003 Oscars ceremony, when Halle, who won an Academy Award for her role in Monster’s Ball the previous year, presented the honour for Best Actor.
After she introduced a montage that featured past winners of the category going back to the start of the ceremony, Adrien was crowned the winner for starring in Roman Polanski’s acclaimed Holocaust drama The Pianist.
The star broke a record with the win, become the youngest Best Actor winner at 29 years old.

As he arrived on stage, he grasped Halle for a surprise kiss. He went even further than she did years later by dipping her and holding the smooch for several seconds.
‘I bet they didn’t tell you that was in the gift bag,’ he joked after releasing her and starting his speech, while the actress and model was seen looking shocked and wiping her mouth on the broadcast.
In 2009, Halle appeared to reference the kiss by snogging Jamie Foxx when he presented her with the Decade of Hotness award for Spike TV’s 2009 Guys Choice Awards.
And on Sunday, the actress finally got her ‘payback’ for the legendary Oscars moment, wrapping an arm around Adrien’s neck and grabbing his shoulder with her other hand as she went in for a kiss.
The onlookers cried out in shock and cheered, and Adrien was quick to embrace Halle for the full dramatic effect.
Analysing the moment, body language expert Inbaal Honigman – working with Covers.com – told Femail: ‘On the red carpet, Halle Berry approaches Adrien Brody and gives him a deliberately unromantic kiss.
‘Their arms are around each other, but Halle’s hand is flexed against Adrien’s shoulder, creating a slight pushing motion rather than pulling him closer. Meanwhile, her other hand hooks around his neck, putting her firmly in control of the joke-kiss.
‘This playful moment recreates their infamous Oscars moment from 2003, when Halle presented Adrien with his Best Actor Academy Award, and he spontaneously kissed her on stage.
Georgina first became romantically linked with Adrien in 2019 and their relationship took centre-stage at the awards on Sunday

‘This time, however, it’s an inside joke, but with Halle dictating the interaction. Adrien’s partner, Georgina Chapman, acts as though she is unbothered by the moment, but her body language tells a different story.
‘She throws her arms wide and turns her palms upwards, a symbolic gesture of welcoming Halle into the joke. However, when she claps, her hands rise unnaturally high, covering her body, suggesting a protective instinct rather than genuine enthusiasm.’
Inbaal added that Georgina’s laughter ‘appears exaggerated’ as she ‘bends over in apparent amusement, but her eyes never leave the back of Halle’s neck’.
‘This forced reaction suggests that her giggles are purely for show,’ she continued.
‘Adrien picks up on it, and in response, he turns to Georgina and kisses her, a silent reassurance that she is the one who truly has his heart.’
It’s not the only time the couple’s relationship took centre stage at the Oscars on Sunday.
